Chapter 100 - December 2, 2013

ya, it definitely is a wierd feeling to think that this is my last email.  It really feels unreal to think that ill be home next monday.  I have enjoyed my mission so much.  I love it here in Idaho :).  I am going to miss being a missionary.  I'm also going to really miss everyone here.  Especially the Jose's/Johnsons.  Man, i really don't want to be writting this email cause it's making me sad hahaha.  Sooooo ill just end it here.  See you in 7 days and can't wait to see you all again :)

Chapter 99 - November 26, 2013

ya i realized they are getting kinda short [emails] hahaha.  But i guess that's because i figure ill just see you in 2 weeks so my laziness is kicking in and i figure i can just cover the main points and go more in detail when i see you guys hahaha.  But to answer your question, yes it's extremely wierd to think that i only have 2 more weeks left of my mission.  I keep looking back and thinking where in the world did all that time go.  It seriously feels like i have only been out maybe a year or so.  Suuuuper wierd,  But at the same time i am excited :).  And i hope Mika isn't still hurt when i get home.

So i'm not sure what my plans are at the moment for thanksgiving.  We are still trying to figure all that out.  That would be cool to stop on in and see uncle bob and all them though.

So i guess there really wasn't much that happened this week.  I kinda got sick and so for like a 3rd of the week i was stuck inside dieing hahaha.  But while i was sick Spencer (Johnson), and Loren (brother Jose) came and took turns "Babysitting" me so my companions could go out and work.  They are so awesome :).  So ya, not really much to say cause when i wasn't sick not much happened hahaha.

Well, peace out till next week :)

Chapter 98 - November 18, 2013

so this week was a little better.  We were able to find 2 more people that want to be baptized! :).  So that now puts us up to 6 people that we are currently working with that want to get baptized.  We unfortunately had to drop one of the people we were working with this week though.  She would never be there for our appointments and wouldn't come to church and eventually stopped texting us back all together :(.  But the lord always provides more people to teach.  Seriously, it's awesome to see how much his hand is in this work.  Well that's all that happened this week so peace out till next week. :)

Chapter 97 - November 11, 2013

So this week was more of an eventful week than last week.  The first thing that happened is we were able to set 3 baptismal dates this week! :).  The first one was with this 9 year old boy.  His parents are super less-active and are wanting to get him baptized and start coming back to church.  The 2nd one is with the wife of a husband who is already member.  She even came to church on sunday! :).  And the last one is with a daughter of a part member family who are inactive.  The older daughter got baptized a few years past and is super strong in the church and is going to help her sister find out her answer :).  Things are definitely looking good in our area right now and we are having tons of success.  We even had a baptism this last Saturday for this 17 year old kid named Trace.  His baptism was so awesome and there were even about 106 people that showed up for it :).  He started investigating the church because of his girlfriend, but one Sunday someone gave a talk during sacrament meeting that just really stuck out to him and he felt the power of the spirit testify unto him the truth of everything.  So he started taking the missionary lessons and long story short is now baptized :).  It's amazing what the power of the Holy Ghost can do.  We seriously wouldn't be able to do any of the stuff that we do as missionaries without him.  He is what converts everyone that we teach :).

Well, that's all that happened this week.  Peace out till next week and will send pictures

Chapter 96 - November 4, 2013

ya my camera is operable.  The lense has had a scratch on it for like a year now and so the lady was gonna take it in to see if they could fix it.  Unfortunately they couldn't :\.  Then someone else told me that it would probably cost more to replace the lense than to just buy a new camera, so oh well hahaha.  But i haven't taken any pictures :\. Ill Take some pictures this week though.  So that's legit that McKenzie is going to peru.  Seriously, that's funny how they are either sending the missionaries from our stake to peru or to this mission hahaha.  This mission is the better one though :).  Ya, i definitely wasn't expecting to run into uncle bob that day hahaha.  We were riding bikes, we were out of miles :(, and all the sudden uncle bob pulls up next to us hahaha.  And ya, he loaded me up with a lot of candy, which i brought to our movie night on  halloween night and shared with everyone :).  Speaking of movie night ya, i forgot to mention last week that for halloween we watch movies from 6-9 :).  This time we watched Monster University and Wreck it Ralph.  Both were soooooooo good :).  I honestly thought that Monster University was just as good as Monster Inc.  That was my last movie watching during the mission though.  Was a bit wierd to think about hahaha.  What's wierder to think about is how i only have 35 more days.....freakin nuts!

So things are going alright for us at the moment.  We are going to be having a baptism this saturday for a 17 year old kid named Trace.  He is super solid and what's funny is whenever someone finds out that he is getting baptized that goes to school with him they just stare at us in shock hahaha.  We also have another baptism that will be happening the following saturday :).  So stay tuned for some awesome pictures.  Another news is we went to the baptism of Spencer Johnson's (family back in Ririe) daughter named Aubrey :).  It was super cool to be able to see them all again.  (them being the joses and both spencer and Scott's families).  Another thing that happened this week is we had Interviews with our mission president and i swear the mission president is trying to make me trunky hahaha.  So i went into my interview with him and he pretty much just told me that we are going to be having my departing interview in only like 5 weeks so we will just keep this one short hahaha.  And the last thing that happened this week is we are having to move out of where we are living.  The member's daughter and granddaughter are moving into the basement today so we have to go and stay with the district leader till we can find another place for us to stay.  Yaaaa, it's gonna be fun hahaha.

Well, that's all that happened this week.  Peace out till next week :)

Chapter 95 - October 28, 2013

Sup :).  So things are going pretty well right now for us.  This week we were able to get in with this lady who the missionaries had been trying to get in with for awhile and she even accepted a baptismal date :).  We couldn't tell how excited she was for baptism but she really wanted us to come back and teach her again so hopefully things work out :).  We also went to the temple visitor center yesterday with a few of our investigators, the missionaries were putting on a fireside there, and it was a really good experience for them.  For the fireside the missionaries had a bishop speak all about his conversion story and how the gospel has blessed him in his own life.  The spirit was soooo strong there and hopefully it helped impact our investigators.  We had to split right after the fireside ended, the investigator we rode with had to leave to go to work, so we weren't able to talk to our other one that was there but hopefully she liked it :).  We currently have 6 people that we are teaching and they are all progressing pretty well.  Hoping to find even more to teach this week :).  Well, that's all that really happened this week so i guess ill end it here.  peace out till next week

Chapter 94 - October 22, 2013

We don't have any snow yet.  It has been a lot colder though lately (thank goodness hahaha).  I really couldn't stand the hot weather this summer (high 90s).  it honestly was even too hot for me in the high 70s hahaha.  Hot weather and missionary clothes don't go well together, especially when your clothes are all wool haha.  So to answer your questions, yes i have a car in this area :).  We drive a Toyota Corolla.  Not as cool as the Ford Fusions that are also in the mission but hey they are better than the Imprezas.  Hated driving the Impreza in Ririe because none of them came with aux ports hahaha.  They did handle very well in the snow though.  Yes, we are living with members.  The story with them is kinda cool.  Apparently before the missionaries moved in with them they were less-active and when the missionaries moved in with them they started coming back to church and are now active :).  So ya, you can tell Matt that great space between houses on the map of Rigby looks even more appealing in person hahaha :).  I seriously love it soooo much being back here in the country.  What's even funnier is it just so happens that i live literately like 5 miles down the road from the Jose's hahaha.  Not gonna lie, it's super hard to not go and visit them all the time hahaha.

Sooo yaaa, i wooould send you pictures today but i kinda don't have my camera :\.  I scratched the lens on my awhile back (not sure how i did it, just turned it on one day and all the sudden there was a scratch :\) and so this lady in our area told us she would take my companion's camera and mine in to get them looked at (his is broken too) cause she does photography for a living.  Soooo you probably won't get pictures till next week.

Things are going pretty well right now in our area.  We were able to find another person to start teaching this week and he even accepted the invitation to be baptized :).  And then yesterday we were able to teach this one lady for the first time and she also accept a baptismal invitation.  Unfortunately it doesn't count for us cause she actually lives in ammon (was up visiting her boyfriend) but oh well, those missionaries will be happy to find out that they are getting a free investigator hahaha.  Other than that though not much else happened this week.  I was sick for most of the week so it was a little slow :\.

Well, peace out till next week.

Chapter 93 - October 14, 2013

That's cool that all the missionaries in the ward didn't get transfered.  In our mission it seems like the opposite happened.  A ton of missionaries who had only been in their area for one transfer or had only been with their comp for one transfer got transfered.  This transfer was one of the more unpredictable ones that's for sure.  So being in Rigby again is pretty legit.  For p-day i actually went and visited a few of the members in Ririe :).  Went and saw the Calls this morning and played some ping pong with him.  Then went and saw a family called the Bowers (they used to feed us every monday night after p-day for family home evening).  Then while we were in Idaho Falls shopping i went and saw Spencer (Johnson family.  The one who's son was in that picture with me at the temple) at work.  And then in a little bit i am gonna go visit the Jose's :).  I am actually a bit sick right now so i'm going to see them to get some meds hahaha :).  My area is pretty legit too.  First and main reason it is legit is....IT"S ALL COUNTRY!!!! hahahaha.  Man, that first day i got here and started driving on the country roads again felt sooooooo good hahaha.  The work is going well in our area as well.  Right now we have 2 baptismal dates and both are pretty solid (one for the 9th of november and the other for like the 21st of december, so i won't be here for the 2nd one but oh well).  Elder Sincere is also pretty cool.  He is also from California, Sacramento area, and looooooooooves soccer.  Like i can't put into words how much he loves soccer hahaha.  He always has to remind me when i ask him if he ever did something (like played this sport or a certain movie) that all he did was soccer hahaha.  I have seen him do a little foot tricks though and he is daaaang good.  Well, there wasn't really all that much that happened this last week (kinda only had like 4 days to make things happens hahaha) so i guess i'm gonna end this email here.

Peace out till next week :)

Chapter 92 - October 7, 2013

While I am happy that i am being transferred out of Poci,  I am sad that i will be leaving behind 6 solid investigators that all have baptismal dates and that i wont be able to see them get baptized :(.  But i am extremely excited to be going back up north, especially to somewhere so close to Ririe :).  And i am SUPER happy to be going back to the country hahaha.  Dang, so i forgot that the mission ruins the suprise by sending you an email of my leadership changes about me going to be a trainer.  I am going to be finishing up a greenie's training.  So in other words, i am doing the 2nd half of his training.  I think it's going to be awesome :).  Oh, i just realized i should probably tell you his name hahaha.  My new companion is going to be Elder Sincere.  All i heard about him is that he is from California.  Not sure what part but i guess i will find that out on wed :).

So i guess the awesome stories i have for you this week are about the 4 new baptismal dates we were able to set :).  One of them is with a mother and her daughter.  One of the members told us about how they had visited them and how they want to get baptized.  So we called them, setup a time with them to meet, and met this last week.  They are extremely solid.  pretty much once we got there they started asking us about when they could get baptized and how they are really looking forward to it!  The mom even told us how she went up to the bishop and asked him if she could get a calling in the ward because she felt it would help her be even more committed to this goal of being baptized. :)

The other one is that investigator i told you about last week who showed up to church after us having lost contact with him.  We were able to meet with him this last week and when we invited him to be baptized he said he really feels like this is the next step he should take and that he knows that he will be able to overcome smoking problems and everything.  Things are great in this area right now.  Super sad to be leaving all these investigators behind but hey the lord has called me another way :)

Well, that's all i have to say this week.  Peace out till next week :)

Chapter 90 - September 20, 2013

So this week was a good week.  We Just had 2 more baptisms this last saturday! And this last week we found 2 more people to start teaching who are all pretty solid. And on top of all that we still have 2 more baptisms lined up for october 26th :). It hasn't been easy though that's forsure. Satan has been hitting everyone one we are trying to teach sooooo hard, specifically with church. I swear, i have never had such a hard time trying to get people to church than now hahaha. But hey, heavenly father can help us overcome Satan any day, as long as we put our faith in him :).  We also had some more miracles on sunday :).  The first one that happened is one of our investigator families came to church this week and the dad, who is less-active, even stayed for all 3 hours which is probably the first time he done that in like 15 years. The other awesome thing that happened this week is we were sitting in the chapel waiting for our 9 o'clock church to start and all the sudden we see this member standing at the chapel doors waving at us to come over to him. So we get up and walk over to him and when we get out into the foyer we see one of our investigators that we have lost contact with for about the last month! :). We start talking to him and found out that he was coming to find out what time his ward was. So we told him that his ward started at 11 and he came back at 11 for his ward! :). Definitely having a lot of success right now :).
So transfer calls come this week and this one will determine where i am going to die in the mission.  Will let you know next week what's happening :).
Well, thanks for everything and peace out till next week :)

PS -- I am getting transferred to Rigby East Stake and I am going to be finishing up the training of a new missionary : )

Chapter 89 - September 23, 2013

So it's finally starting to cool down and feel like fall :).  I have come to the conclusion that i am not going to like how hot it will be in california when i come home hahahaha.  The heat sucks :).  And yes to answer your question i do miss being out in the country hahaha.  The city life (if that's what you call it here in poci since poci isn't really much of a city) just isn't as awesome hahaha.

So things are going pretty well for us right now.  We are currently having a baptism coming up this weekend and it's going to be awesome :).  Their names are megan and abby, megan is 12 and abby is 9, and the coolest part about them is by teaching them we also have been able to reactive their parents :).  We also just found out that there are a few people that would like to start taking the missionary discussions, so we are going to go and meet with them this week and hopefully start teaching them :).  Another thing that happend this week is i had the privilage of giving a blessing of comfort to the dad of a less-active family that we have been working with for awhile.  Honestly, it was probably the most i have ever felt the spirit working through me.  I could literately feel the spirit putting the words into my mouth of what i should say and i could feel his presence so strongly throughout my entire body.  The coolest part was the very next day the dad came up to me and told me how that blessing i gave him made him feel overwhelmed with a sense a peace and happiness and how he knows it's because of the blessing.  I love the priesthood and being able to bless other people's lives with it :).

Well, those are pretty much the highlights of this week.  Could you get me Vili's email address?  I wanna send him an email now that he is at the mtc :)

Chapter 88 - September 16, 2013

sooooooooo this is what happened this week. WE GOT A BAPTISM!!!!! :) hahaha. I don't know if i told you about the 9 year old girl named addy that we found but her baptism was such a wonderful thing. The spirit was super strong the entire time and it definitely was a miracle given to us from our heavenly father that she got baptized. So the story behind her is her mom grew up in the church but has gone super inactive and infact is kinda against the church now. So i guess a week before we knocked on addy's door she had gone to church with her grandpa (who is a member) and really enjoyed being there so she told her grandpa that she wanted to get baptized. And then that next week we show up at her door and the first response from her mom was "who sent you here? Did my dad send you here? or was it the visiting teachers?" We told her that we actually were just going through the neighborhood knocking on the doors trying to get to know everyone and from then on long story short the mom talked to addy about baptism and agreed to let her start taking the discussions and get baptized, which lead to her getting baptized on saturday! :) The coolest part was that everyone in their family that was at the baptism kept coming up to me and telling me how much of a miracle this was and that i was an answer to many of their prayers :). MISSIONARY WORK ROCKS! :) hahaha. Other news is you remember that family where the dad lost custody of his 2 sons? Well, one of them was finally given back to him a few weeks ago and we were able to get in and start teaching him once again and now him and his sister, who is 9, both have dates for october 26. We also have 2 more people that are going to be getting baptized not this saturday but the following saturday. :)

Things are going pretty well in this area and we are still finding more and more people to teach :). It definitely sucks walking but it's gotten a lot cooler so it's not as bad anymore. Tell grandma and Grandpa i said hi :).  Oh and tell uncle Jim that he is a dork and that i said hi :) hahaha.

Peace out till next week :)

Chapter 87 - September 9, 2013

That's legit that you guys finally got the sister missionaries!  That's so wierd to think that there are 2 sets of missionaries for one ward though, compared to us where one set of missionaries usually covers anywhere from 5-18 wards hahaha.  And that's cool that you get to help out with the new member discussions.  And the way you said you are doing them, teaching one of the major 3 lessons with a few of the principles from lessons 5, is the best way to do them :).  On our mission it seems like, atleast in my case, the missionaries usually end up teaching the new member discussions.

Dang, Villi and Garrett are both leaving next week for the mtc?  That's so crazy to think about.....Wow it really is wierd to think that pretty much all the young men won't be there when i get back hahaha.  They will love their missions.  There honestly isn't a better time in one's life than some of the moments you get to have on a mission :)

So i guess to answer your question yes i got the package :).  Sorry i forgot to mention it last week.  Definitely enjoyed all the random stuff that was in it hahaha.  We have been having fun with those spiderman sticky balls.  The district also seems to like the stuff in my package as well hahaha :).

So some news is that we are going to be having a baptism on saturday! :). Her name is addy and we have been teaching her for a little while now. We are hoping that with addy getting baptized her mom will feel the holy ghost working within herself and want to start coming back to church :). Another good news is we will be having two more baptisms on september 28th! Things are going good right now in our area. We were supposed to get 2 more baptismal dates this last week but we unfortunately weren't able to meet with that family :(. But we are meeting with them this week so we should be able to invite them this week and one of them has already told us that she really wants to get baptized :). More good news is that we just got a referal today from our ward mission leader for this person that has been coming to church for the past 2 weeks or so. Apparently he wants to take the missionary discussions :).

Well, that's all that's happened this week.  Peace out till next week :).

Chapter 86 - September 2, 2013 (BIRTHDAY!)

21! woooooot! :)

Dang, i can't believe that Haley is getting sushi thrown at her and she doesn't even like it :(.  She should send it to me :) hahaha.  Speaking of sushi, maybe i will go and get some sushi today for my birthday :).  So i was able to run into both sister flora and elder ashdown (i definitely called him landen when i saw him hahaha) at the transfer site on wed.  They both seem very excited to be here in idaho.  Sister Nielson doesn't come out till tomorrow so maybe i will see here at the zone conference tomorrow.  Will let you know next week if i see her.

So you definitely are going to have to consult with me about which classes you are signing me up for because i actually have been think about which ones i want to take when i get back and i have a few ideas.  ill put them in a different email.

Well, things are going great right now for us.  Unfortunately we weren't able to set baptismal dates with 2 of our investigators this week (the kid who just got permission to go live with his dad again).  We felt like we didn't watch to pressure him already on his first day back so we are gonna try and set one this week :).  But some more good news is that we were able to get back in with those 2 investigators that dropped us awhile back because they got into anti stuff! :)  The mom was even gonna come to church this week but when we stopped by sunday morning she had the stomach flu :(.  But the good thing is that we were able to get back in and that they even accept our challenge to start reading the book of mormon atleast every other night as a family and then pray together afterwards.  The other cool thing is that when i asked her if she still knew that the book of mormon is true, she told us that she has still been reading a little bit here and there and she still get's the same feeling from the holy ghost testifying to her that it's true! :)  So hopefully things will start to progress with them once again and i will have some more exciting news to tell you next week, like them coming to church or something :).

Well, i'll make sure to take some pictures today of me enjoying my 21st birthday!!! :)

Chapter 85 - August 26, 2013

WHADDUP! :)

So that's awesome that david got his firstie ring.  I won't lie though, my first thought when i saw those pictures of him was daaaang, he looks way more in shape than i do hahaha.  I gotta fix that ;).

So Sarah Redman got baptized?  That's legit!

We got transfer calls this week and i found out that i am going to be staying and that i am going to be getting a new companion, Elder Gonzales.  I have heard alot about him, one of the elders back in my district when i was in Ririe knew him before the mission and wouldn't stop telling us all about Elder Gonzales hahaha.  So he seems pretty cool and i am excited to become his companion.  And i am still a District leader so i guess it looks like i will probably die as a district leader here in Poci.  Things are going great right now in our area, we hope to be getting three baptismal dates this week!

Well, hope you have a great week and peace out till next week :).

Chapter 84 - August 19, 2013

Dang.  So you have to teach Gospel Essentials?  Sounds fun ;) hahaha.  I honestly really like going to gospel essentials.  The class topics are always good ones and we usually have some good discussions.  I like that quote though.

Ya i got your box of junk this week.  Me and the other elders in the district have been enjoying some of those random toys.  They especially liked that red water ball toy.  I brought it the next day to district meeting and we kept throwing it around so much that it broke hahaha.  So they all told me to have you send more but i told them it was just a random free give away item from a convention you went to.  They were a bit sad hahaha.  And i know, i can't believe it either than im about to turn 21!  September 2nd baby!!!!!  And no we unfortunately won't be getting an all day p-day but my birthday still falls on normal p-day so i will get to celebrate it from 10-6 :).

So this week was unfortunately a little slower than usual again :(.  A lot of people went out of town to go on vacation or to go camping so pretty much no one was home for the entire weekend :\.  but i was able to find monopoly at a yard sale this week for a dollar! :) hahaha.  So me and Elder Farnsworth have been playing it pretty much every night.  That and Risk.  One awesome thing that happened this week though is we were able to give a blessing to a less-active family that we have been working with.  They are progressing really well right now and infact are working on their goal to go to the temple and get sealed as a family.  They are a really cool family but the wierd part is that both the mom and dad are younger than me hahaha.  So everytime i see the dad i think man, you are younger than me and are already married.  Unfair! hahaha

Well, that's all that really happened this week.  It's been rediculously hot lately and it sucks even more being in missionary clothes when it's hot hahaha.  I straight up can't wait for it to get colder again haha.  Peace out till next week!

Chapter 83 - August 12, 2013

Wowwwwwww mom, someone is trunky ;).  It's ok, i won't lie i'm a little bit as well hahaha.  Getting that phone call about my departure date definitely didn't help hahaha.  But honestly, despite the excitement, it's also sad at the same time to think that my mission is coming to an end :(.  I am loving my mission so much and definitely don't want it to end because you get to have so many amazing experiences.  But at the same time i am ready to begin the next stage of my life.

So i guess that's one of the blessings that comes from serving a mission is that i haven't written any of the talks i have given. I have learned how to just go up there with a sheet of paper that has a few bullet points and just talk.  A mission has definitely helped me become a better speaker, i still don't like giving talks though hahaha.  There is something about getting up in front of hundreds of  people and talking that just isn't appealing, hahaha.

So this week was actually a really good week for us :).  We were able to find 2 new people to start teaching and we also were able to commit 2 more people to baptism this week! :).  And by the end of the month we should have at least 2-4 more people committed to baptism! :).  Honestly, this week is what we needed to have because the previous few weeks were kinda a drag with having 4 of our investigators drop us and then just nothing going the way it should.

Another awesome thing, one of the wards that we cover was having their ward party at the local park and they decided to do a waterslide party.  So while we were there the bishop came up to us and told us that we should go and slide down the slide.  And you know we didn't want to offend the bishop at all ;) so we haaaaad to go and slide down the waterslide hahaha.  It ended up being a good experience though because some of the youth weren't members so we were able to interact with them and get to know them and hopefully when we go and stop by their house this week we will now be able to teach them :).

Well, that's all for this week so i guess peace out till next week :)

Elder ---chis--->

Chapter 82 - August 5, 2013

The first thing you notice about a picture would be that i need a haircut hahaha!  Don't worry, we tried last week but weren't able to get them so we are getting them this week.  But i am also glad that you noticed that i am defintely a lot more in shape and im not as chubby hahaha.  Being in a walking area has really kicked my butt into shape and i am now at 160 pounds haha.  So ya, that member gave us a TON a food so we were pretty excited about that :).  Unfortunately the crock pot has a crack down one side of it so we don't think it would keep in the juice if we were to use it but oh well.

So things were unfortunately still a little stressful and rough this week.  Definitely better than last week though :).  We were able to find a new person to start teaching and are going to have our first lesson with her.  It's this girl named addy and we found her just knocking on doors in our area.  When she answered the door she pretty much straight away told us that she wants to get baptized and when her mom came to the door she said she would talk to her daughter about it and we could call her in a few days.  Soooo we went back and visited her again about 2 days later and we find out that the mom gave her permission to start taking the missionary discussions and possibly get baptized! :).  So things are definitely starting to look up again.  And we also found out that one of the investigators that dropped us, he kinda had to do to some circumstances, we will be able to start teaching him again at the end of the month probably :).

Elder Farnsworth and i are really trying our best to be obedient and work hard so we can show our heavenly father we are here to work and he and trust us with people to teach :).  Continue to pray for us and i guess that's kinda all i have to report on about this last week.  So peace out till next week :).
